I agree it's horrible.

I think it's also important that people separate their opinions about muslims and arabs from their bad feelings about this tragedy.

There's been a crackdown in the surrounding bases of Norfolk and Va due to this incident. I agree with Dave on the issue. In mainly dealing with Major Malik Nadal Hasan, one of the things I've heard from people is since he does have a suspicious name that usually associated with the Middle East and Muslims that he must be a Muslim terrorist. I won't rule it out but there's no proof yet nor may there ever be proof. What I do know is he was supposed to ship out to the Middle East sometime soon, perhaps a month or two. There are still members in the military who do not support the war nor may they like to be deployed to one of the US's current death hotspots at the time. As a doctor who appears to have dealt with patients with Traumatic Stress, he may have feared what was in store for him.

As I mentioned I do not rule out the terrorist element but this is not a man who just immigrated to the US. An officer in the military has to go through a lot more fine print and ribbon than enlisted with. I also believe there has to be a board that approves any officer to O-3 and every rank beyond. With his rank and what he had if he was on a terrorist agenda he could have done a considerable more amount of damage than what took place.

I believe this is an isolated case and there has not been enough attacks by those of Middle Eastern descent or ancestry to warrant me to keep a closer eye on any of my co-workers, neighbors, or anyone else who I believe 'appears' to look like one.

I was in the military stationed on the USS Cowpens in Pearl Harbor when September 11, 2001 happened. I remember how it was both military and civilian before that day and how much changed especially in America afterwards. If this is 'the worst attack since 9-11' then we've been extremely well here in America in that regards. Extremely. A majority of our death increases have currently been coming from The War On Terror started in 03.

According to Fox News (the greatest news channel in the seven universes) Hasan was upset at how many military members treated Muslims in general thanks to the War On Terrorism aka War On Muslims. Well, duh. In reality, the US Military should be Christian based only and perhaps those who don't have a religion or aggressively go after one because if you're anything else in the miltary you're a minority and subject to death. And if you're a Muslim? Why would you join the military in the first place knowing you and your teammates are getting fed Muslim hatred purposedly so you can go over there and kill them with less remorse?

Anyway back to Fox. Apparently this US born citizen went to the Middle East to beef up over there on hate and terrorism and then came back here to shoot up folks. But seriously, I don't think there would be anyway that Fox News would be able to see anyone non-Christian and especially Muslim without seeing their terrorist intent.

I pay attention more when all news get on the right foot. CNN has also made some remarks about possible terrorist intent. Now, one of the Marines stated that the perp apparently shouted 'Allahu Ahkbar' before opening fire then later said he didn't know if it was exactly what the person shouted.

While browsing the most powerful news site in the galaxy I saw an extremely small article about a Marine Reservists. Apparently a Greek priest who knew little English came up to him on the highway asking for help in broken English. I don't know how deep shit gets in Tampa but the Reservist yanked out his tire iron and beat the shit out of the priest. Apparently he mistook this poor Greek priest for a Muslim terrorist and, like many of his kind, claimed the man yelled 'Allahu Ahkbar!' Sounds familiar? It's sort of like back in the day when the cops used to sprinkle crack on unarmed men. Allahu Akhbar is translated from Arabic as 'God is Great' and is supposed to be a terrorist war craw apparently, as opposed to the christians that come up to you in the street and literally try and tell you the same thing. Does that mean I get to hit them over the head with tire irons as well? Back to the story. The Greek priest didn't know Arabic so he did not say Allahu Akhbar. What he said sounded more like 'Please help'. I can see where a person could get confused. It sounds so similar. Insisisent fear of a specific group of people and lying about what was said to cover up your crime only to find out the person you were beating the shit out of wasn't even Muslim nor from the Middle East? Fail.

I wonder how many other men are lying in slabs because someone thought they heard Allahu Akhbar. The terrorist stamp of approval.

About the above:

Yes, you're right-- it REALLY stinks, because that news program is inflaming a LOT of fears...  and it's basically fear of anyone who doesn't "look like us"....

... and what does "US" look like? (from the FOX news perspective--which is of course the perspective of all righteous Americans!)

Well, white, heterosexual, landholding male, of course, with that "Aryan guy next door" look....

As a matter of fact... [she looks nervously and then suspiciously around the board]..... wait a minute...  I'm not seeing a lot of Aryan guys around here!

................

Seriously though, I really get your point, and it DOES stink.  I can only imagine what is going through the heads of our armed forces personell right now, who happen to have darker than white skin, or happen to be Muslim, or happen to be of Middle Eastern descent....

ONE MAN'S whacked, horrible and tragic actions DO NOT REPRESENT THE INTENTIONS OF ALL PEOPLE OF HIS ETHNICITY, SKIN TONE, RELIGION or even DISLIKE OF THE WAR.
