Indeed...That's why if you want to walk about in the wilderness, you should do so in groups or at least be armed if you're by yourself.
From what I understand, she was from a city and wasn't familiar with the dangers that lurk in the Canadian forest. People who live there know better than to walk about without a gun, knife or bow and arrow.
On another site in which people were commenting about this tragic case, someone wondered if she was menstruating. Apparently the scent of menstrual blood excites wild canines. With her seemingly small frame, she had no chance against a group of coyotes.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened. In California there's been a few cases of mountain lions attacking, killing, and even eating hikers. joggers, bicyclers, etc.

How very unfortunate for this to happen to this young lady. I wonder what happened animals don’t typical attack people in fact many of them will avoid people as much as they can. Some expectations are if they are protecting young, they are ill or they are extremely extremely hungry or even if someone is harassing them in some way.
Jessica Simpson dog was apparently taken by a coyote.
Dogs may be domesticated but they are still carnivores and thus a predator. Their teeth and jaws are designed for ripping and tearing flesh, crunching on bones. If left on their own the strong would form packs and hunt as their wild cousins still do today.
Nothing wrong with getting some professional (even more with a powerful breed like a Rottie) training frankly most peoples dogs are too poorly trained and sometimes not even trained at all.
