Hello everyonee, I'm new to the board, so excuse me if this has been asked already,
but as I peruse the board, looking at various threads, I see people mentioning things about "mulatto phenotype". I realize it means someone who looks/appears mulatto, however, as mulatto people how do you think the mulatto phenotype is supposed to look? I've see across this board people stating that some mulatto people "don't have a mulatto phenotype". Does it differ for FGMs, versus that of SGMs and MGMs? Post pictures if you like.

Oh please, I'd expect that from an American but you live in Finland.

In my experience most American mulattos appear to be "more white" or "more mixed" than European mulattos since most European mulattos have one black parent from sub-Saharan Africa with less admixture than the typical African American. As we know, African Americans are a mixed group to begin with, having European, Native American and sometimes even Asian admixture.

Disclaimer: The above statement is general, but having lived in Europe and the U.S., this is what I observe on average. There are exceptions to and circumstances that do not apply to this rule.

This is absolutely true.  It is also why some African-Americans see Barack Obama as having a typical "Black" phenotype, whereas the rest of the world probably looks at him and sees a typical mulatto phenotype.  Plus, it's obvious that some of us American mulattos are not half-African (me, Athenas83, ShannonTheGuy, PassingWoman, Jennifer Beals, Rashida Jones, etc.).

Okay, I noticed that too. My sister's friend is a FGM, however her father is Sub-Saharan African and her mother is German, and the little girl looks like she could be sisters with my sister.

Mochaa, I am not going to get all deep because this type of thing is subjective BUT, living in a family with a LARGE number of mulattoes I can tell you from my experience that mulatto can have a white, black, and a mix of the two, type phenotype.  Genes are  a funny thing and yes you can have  two children from the same parents come out looking drastically different as far as color and phenotype. I have some mulatto cousins that look predominantly white or black and some cousins whom are mulatto that really don't look very mixed at all. I believe that MOST mulattos do have that distinctive in between look but there are some that look more white and some that look more black. That why I always believe that the mulatto phenotype can consist of black, white and all the lovely shades in between.

You are right Fin, SOME mulattos can sometimes look like a lightskinned black person.

Great generalisation you got going there

Mulattos are half black, half caucasion.  Any half could be the more dominant side; we are mixed therefore our features will be also and just because we're half black doesn't mean that the only thing we'll get from our caucasian side will be a lighter skin tone.

Its kinda like a tombola... you never know what you're going to get.

hehe... great analogy huh

Considering Finland doesn't have to same kinda "African-American" population in numbers that America does, it should be quite easy for most people to tell a black person from a mulatto there.  Don't give me any of your bs.

i can perfectly tell a mulatto from a black person so wtf r u talkin bout

i didnt say they look like black people but i was just statin that mulattos facial features r close 2 black people think about it

they(excluding somali mulattos) mostly have

-big lips
-curly hair
-wide noses

not as pronounced as full blacks but those features are there

not to mention their smiles look pretty african once again not as much as the pures but theyre pretty different than white people

i dont know how is it in america where pure blacks dont exist unles theyre african immigrants

Just wait until mulattos start mixing with Asians, then you're really going to be in trouble
